Volunteer Opportunities

Day in and day out, parental support makes a world of difference for our students and school.  The Brookside PTA is a volunteer organization whose success is dependent upon the strength of parental involvement.

Volunteers are needed through out the year to help with the many programs and services the PTA offers.  We appreciate the gift of your time and talents to help the PTA make a difference.

2010-2011 Committee Chair Positions – the following committee chair positions need to be filled.  Chair positions can be done alone or with a friend.  Training is provided for all positions.

• PTA Fall/Spring Free Afterschool Classes (2 chairs recommended) – Organize the free afterschool classes offered from the PTA in fall and spring.  Set the dates, plan the classes/find instructors, advertise, and process the registration.
• Art Classes – Facilitate the after school art classes provided by All About Art and Adventures in art. Set up after school class schedule/dates for the year and assist with promotion and registration.
• Chess Club (2 chairs recommended) – Coordinate, facilitate, and promote the after school chess program offered through the non-profit program Chessmates with instructor Fred Clease
• Dad-n-me Pancake Breakfast (Co-Chair) – Assist the current chair with planning, publicizing, and organizing this event to be held Saturday morning on January 22nd, 2011
• Garden & Grounds – Plan and implement school ground improvement projects/work parties as needed.  Onsite Coordinator for Embrace Shoreline Schools Volunteer event in May
• Phone Book Advertising Coordinator – Solicit advertising from local companies and school families for Brookside phone book that comes in the fall
• Safeway escript – Coordinate and Promote this PTA fundraiser
• School Play (2-3 Volunteers)– Assist Dandylion Drama with Coordinating and staging a school play in March
• Sock Hop Co-Chairs (2 or more) – Organize and Coordinate this popular event held in November.  Arrange food, DJ, and decorations; Promote event through flyers, emails, etc.; and Coordinate Volunteers for set-up, food service and sales, ticket sales, etc.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

• Health Screenings in the gym – Tuesday September 28th.  Parent Volunteers needed to assist the school nurse do health screenings on all students.  Shifts and number of volunteers needed:
• 9am – Noon: 10 parent volunteers
• 12:15 pm – 3pm: 8 parent volunteers

• Hearing Screenings – Tuesday October 5th Parent volunteers needed to assist the school nurse with hearing screenings on all students.  Shifts and number of volunteers needed:
• 9am – Noon: 4 parent volunteers
• 12:30 – 3pm: 4 parent volunteers
