Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you to all the parents who have turned in a volunteer sign-up form already.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  The following programs and activities are still in need of volunteers.  Look them over and let us know if you are available to help!!!

COMMITTEE CHAIR:

__Garden & Grounds Co-Chair:  Assist with the development and implementation of a program to provide upkeep, maintenance, and improvement to the outdoor grounds of Brookside.  Facilitate and participate in the Embrace Shoreline Schools event in May.  The current chair would love to have help putting something together for the spring and to train for next year.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
 
__ Free PTA Afterschool Activities: May

1. Co-Chair - Help to organize the free afterschool classes offered in this spring. Set the dates, plan the classes, advertise, and process registration. 
2. Volunteers needed to teach a class of up to 15 students (topic of your choice)
3. Provide assistance to the instructors and students during classes or facilitate student check-in & check-out

__Family Fun & Fitness Night:  June

1. Help to get area businesses that promote children’s health & fitness (camps, sports leagues, cooking classes, etc,) to participate at the event (this can be done from home).
2. Assist Chair with event promotion
3. Help with set-up, company check in, assist Mr. Alford with fitness events during the evening, and clean-up

__ Field Day: Assist Mr. Alford with the running of field day events for the students. Help pass out popsicles to the students. There are morning & afternoon shifts.  Date is not finalized, but takes place sometime during the last week of school in June.

__Ice Cream Social: Assist with ticket sales or hand out ice cream bars to students and their families during the Brookside evening open house on Thursday April 1st. **If you signed up to assist at this event in the fall we still have you on the volunteer roster to help so you do not need to resign up.

__ Science Night/Egg Drop: 

1. 1 or 2 volunteers to help visit the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms on Feb 19th or Feb 26th to talk with students about the science fair and how to design science projects. These classroom visits are important because the students get excited about preparing a project, and we can provide information to help the students start thinking about project ideas.
2. Assist with preparation and promotion of science night.
3. Help with set-up (4:00 – 5:30 p.m.) coordination of egg drop entries (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.), and clean up (8:00 -8:30).  Date Friday March 19th
