Thank you for supporting our school!

Thank you from the Brookside PTA Fundraising team!

What an amazing year we had at Brookside Elementary in 2008-2009! Our school and community were busy supporting our students, teachers and staff through our fundraising and efforts of the many volunteers.  The Brookside community recognizes the importance of supporting education and students, and we THANK ALL OF YOU for this!
Brookside's PTA membership reached 100% again this past year. That means there was a paid membership for each student here at Brookside.  Our PTA worked hard to support as many activities as possible in our school. Did you know that PTA spends about $70.00 per student during the school year?  The money we raised through Sally Foster gift wrap, Entertainment books, Pennies for Brookside and Pass-the-Hat goes directly back into PTA programs, classroom activities and curriculum.  This is what your PTA money paid for during the 2008-2009 school year:

  • Classroom, music, library, PE funds
  • Field trip support
  • Art docent program
  • Cultural enrichment assemblies
  • Math Olympiad
  • Staff Appreciation
  • 6th grade year end field trip
  • Awards and recognition (outstanding educator)
  • Growing literacy: books for the classrooms and library, AR tests, special resource books, and more.
PTA fundraisers for the 2009-2010 School Year:

Entertainment Books (September 8th – 23rd)

With the beginning of school, we’ll kick-off with an Entertainment Book fundraiser.  Families will be asked to sell these books that offer discounts on travel, sporting events, dining, movies and more.  If more than 100 books are sold, the school receives 40% profit.

You can also purchase books for other states and cities by ordering online using our account (292136) at www.entertainment.com.  This is a great gift idea for office personnel, family and friends.

Pass the Hat (October - June)

The largest fundraiser will continue to be the Pass the Hat campaign.  This is an opportunity for families to give any amount of money they wish directly to the PTA. Donations are tax-deductible and often will be matched by an employer.

Our fundraising goal is $12,000.  The first $8,500 we raise goes to support general PTA operating expenses.  All dollars raised above this amount will be directed towards our Physical Education programs with the belief that increased physical fitness brings improved academic performance.  The funds will be used for equipment, programs and educational materials which help to demonstrate to our students the many ways that active bodies and thoughtful food choices are an important part of success in school and life.

If you would like to support the educational growth of our Brookside students by making a donation, please complete the Pass the Hat contribution form and send it with a check in an envelope labeled “Pass the Hat” to school.

Gift Wrap (November - June) ONLINE ONLY

We plan to continue the Sally Foster Gift Wrap fundraiser online this year.  Sally Foster offers great quality paper with a variety of products and a year-round online ordering account (292136) at www.sallyfoster.com.  The Sally Foster company rebates 50% of the gross sales from these fundraisers to Brookside.

Read-a-thon (January 12th – February 2nd)

This was such a popular event last year that we are doing it again this year.  Kids will be encouraged to read as much as they can during the 3-week period.  Friends and family can sponsor the participants.

Every student that participates will receive one “BlueJay Buck” for each $10 raised.  The Buck can be spent at the Book fair.  In addition, there will be prizes for the top individual readers in each grade, class with the greatest participation, and the top fundraising class.

Pennies for Brookside(March/April timeframe)

Pennies for Brookside was also a new fundraiser last year and one that we will continue this year.  Grades compete against one another by collecting pennies; the grade with the most at the end of the week wins. Total will be tallied daily to fan the flames of friendly rivalry and the winning grade will win a pizza and/or ice cream party.
