What is Math Olympiads?
The Brookside Math Olympiads program is an opportunity for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to practice and improve their math skills. This program is open, free of charge, and runs October through March each year. Students meet weekly before or after school. A culminating Math Olympiads Shoreline School District event is held in March.

When will the Math Olympiads Team Meet?
In 2011-2012, October 28th – March 9th:
4th Grade meets Thursdays, 3:35-4:45p, Resource Center (near library)
5th Grade meets Fridays, 8:00-9:00a, Room 106
6th Grade meets Fridays, 8:00-9:00a, Resource Center (near library)
Parent Volunteers
The success of the Math O program is due to parent volunteers. We ask for instructional assistants as well as other help. Instructional assistants help out during the class. Assistants can help lead a simple math game or help students solve problems. Your coach will give you the answers to the problems ahead of time so you will feel more confident with helping. You do not have to be a math wiz to be a parent volunteer. If you can help only once a month that is fine or if you can help every week that is great too!
Who Leads the Brookside Math Olympiads Team?
Sharon Reijonen is the Math Olympiads Team Coordinator and is the primary point of contact. Instruction, test proctoring, test grading, and logistical support are provided by parent volunteers. Contact Sharon at reijonens@comcast.net if you have any questions.

Brookside offers a variety of before and after school programs, including: Drama club, dance, art classes, jump rope club, math olympiad, foreign language, and 'girls on the run'. The majority of classes charge a fee for participation, however, scholarships are offered based on need. Free after school activities will be offered after the 1st of the year.
After school activities are dependent on parent participation. A PTA parent must volunteer for an after school activity to continue. All registrations include information requesting parent involvement. Registrations will come home in the school mail with your child.
Please contact Julie Burgess-Dennis (jburgessdennis@mac.com) or Jenny Muilenburg (jenny@muilenburg.com) with any questions or ideas. . |
