Welcome!
Brookside
September 2009
Dear Parents,
The Brookside PTA extends a warm welcome to those of you who are new Brookside, and a “welcome back” to all those returning. There are many ways for you to be involved in your child’s education and joining PTA is just the beginning. The Brookside PTA strives to make a difference for our school by providing programs and activities that benefit students, parents, school staff, and the community.
To support the activities and programs that the PTA sponsors, we need your help! Working together, we can truly make a difference at our school and in the lives of our children.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- Join the Brookside PTA: Complete a Membership Form and return it in your child’s Boomerang/Kid’s mail. A link to Membership is included on this website.
- Review the volunteer activities that need volunteers and share your time and talents. Feel free to contact any PTA board member for more information.
- Support PTA sponsored fundraisers: The money raised funds the scheduled activities, programs, school/community support, and many extras we provide for the students, families, and staff here at Brookside.
- Participate in PTA sponsored activities with your child.
- Attend PTA meetings (childcare is provided). First meeting is Tuesday September 29th at Brookside. Sue Porter, Director of Teaching and Learning at Shoreline Public Schools, will address “How Parents Can Help Their Children Develop Effective Study Skills”.
- Stay informed:
- Learn about the Brookside PTA by reviewing all the great information on this site. Add the site to your Favorites and check back here for periodic updates.
- Sign up to receive the Brookside PTA weekly email updates.
- Read our monthly Newsletter (also available here), look over the periodic flyers sent home with your children by boomerang/kid mail (all PTA flyers will be in purple), and check out the PTA bulletin board outside the front office.
Your involvement with PTA will benefit everyone at Brookside. Please join us in making this a successful year. We can do it working TOGETHER!

About Brookside PTA
Local unit PTAs like Brookside work within their own schools
to enrich the educational experience for students, support families,
and build community. We raise monies for materials, after-school
programs, field trips, assemblies and more, and organize hundreds
of volunteers every year to help make Brookside the great school
it is. In addition, we are connected to the Washington State PTA
and the National PTA, both of which provide powerful lobbying
efforts on behalf of all children. For more than 100 years, PTA
has been at the forefront of issues affecting children, parents
and public schools. PTA is credited with lobbying for establishing
kindergarten in public schools, hot lunch programs, juvenile justice
and child-labor laws, school bus safety and TV ratings efforts,
to name a few.
If you have not yet joined the PTA or have not renewed your
membership, please visit our Membership
page. Please help us reach our goal of 100% membership!
Enrich Student Learning:
Support students, parents and teachers with programs and events
that enhance the total learning environment, both academically
and socially, by providing opportunities such as after school
activities, foreign languages, assemblies, grants, and funds for
field trips and classroom support.
Promote Communication, Collaboration and Advocacy:
Collaborate with families, students, school staff and the
community to promote the health, education, and safety of
Brookside students.
Build community within Brookside through good communication,
parenting support, and active parent participation at school.
Inform our membership about legislative and other governmental
issues affecting the care and education of children.
